school closing
While we know it is important to open school sites, especially when they have largely been unharmed by recent storms, we do not want to rush the decision. After a late Sunday afternoon update from Holston Electric and EMS, Hawkins County Schools will not be in session tomorrow, September 30. However, in order to provide needed resources and services to our communities, we will offer open school sites for charging stations and other resources. If you are in need and can safely access one of our school sites during school hours, please do so. Thank you for your patience as we take all information into consideration.

In regards to the phone call from September 13, 2024: Please know that we will be vigilant in our approach to any threat to our students and staff. As we continue to improve communication, please know we will use the following three methods for relaying updates during such events. 1. Our website (www.hck12.net) Please check the main page of our website for posted information. Please refresh this page each time you check for information 2. Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/p/Hawkins-County-School-District-100046305622499/) Our HCS Facebook account will also be used to push updates and statements that copy what we post on the website 3. Direct parent calls/texts. Our HCS App will be used to push voice messages and texts. Please ensure you have current contact info in our student database (Skyward) and that the school your child attends has this information correctly listed. If you have not uploaded the HCS app, please do so as soon as possible here: Apple users: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hawkins-county-school-district/id1668470905, and Android users: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptegy.hawkinscountysc&pli=1. This app is used to call the number you list as your primary contact (home or cell) and/or send you text messages as well. Please know there will be times when we cannot provide detailed information or any information at all. We will minimally, make sure you are aware that we have identified the concern and are actively investigating, but we may not be able to provide more details at regular intervals. When law enforcement is actively investigating, we will not release information without their approval, due to our desire to not interfere or impede the investigation. What we have learned from our local threats, those occurring across the state, and nationally, is that the authors of these posts desire attention and disruption. I would ask that if you see a threat or troubling post on social media, please forward this information to law enforcement and school administration. Once authorities have verified they have received the information, these threats will be acted on immediately. Please do not forward to others. Please do not provide those who create such garbage a larger audience. Please allow officials to deal with the threats and pursue those who create this vile content. Remember, Report, don’t Repost! A Green Lockdown (precautionary action where students are kept in classes and exterior of school is closed) was initiated this morning, 9/12 at VHS. This was an action taken out of precaution as law enforcement responded to a rumor. The lockdown lasted less than an hour this morning and did not affect class schedules.
