Our second graders read "Balloons Over Broadway" and "Millie and the Macy's Parade" to learn about the history of the parade. They watched a video about how the balloons are made and then created their own to celebrate the 100th year.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924 as a celebration of Macy's new flagship store and to promote holiday sales. Originally featuring animals from the Central Park Zoo, the parade later transitioned to iconic giant balloons in 1927. The parade has become a beloved tradition, attracting millions of spectators and viewers worldwide.
