ROGERSVILLE — Cherokee’s boys track and field team may have been sweating toward the end of Tuesday’s Twin Lakes Conference meet at home, but in the end, the Chiefs came out on top.
The Rogersville crew defended its home oval by piling up 155 points — squeaking by Greeneville in the team standings by a mere four points.
Cocke County amassed 186 points to take the girls’ team title.
Trey Smith played a major role in the Chiefs’ championship, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 17.25 and the 300s in 42.83. Smith also was on the gold medal-winning 4x100 relay team (47.14).
The Cherokee girls had two players double up. Olivia Spence won both hurdles, taking the 100 in 17.85 and the 300 in 50.63. Lillyan Henley took gold in the 400 (1:04.57) and pole vault (6-6).
